Motor and ESC repair

Motors and their electronic speed controllers are the drone's drivetrain, and they fail the way drivetrains do: gradually from wear, sand and salt air — or instantly from a crash or a short. Either way the symptoms are unmistakable, and so is the risk. A motor that stutters on the bench will quit in the air.

We replace and repair brushless motors, diagnose and repair ESCs at board level where the design allows, and calibrate the whole power train so all motors spin true and pull evenly.

Signs of motor or ESC trouble

The power train usually warns you before it fails outright:

  • Grinding, clicking or rough-sounding motors at spin-up
  • One motor stutters, twitches or fails to start with the others
  • Drone pulls to one side, struggles to hold hover, or tips on takeoff
  • ESC errors, motor blocked warnings, or sudden power loss in flight
  • Motors running noticeably hot, or a burnt-electronics smell
  • Bearings loose or gritty after flying near sand or salt water

How we repair motors and ESCs

  1. Bench-test each motor

    Every motor is tested individually — spin resistance, bearing condition, winding health — alongside ESC output testing to find whether the fault is mechanical or electronic.

  2. Quote with the cause named

    The quote tells you which motor or controller failed and why — crash impact, corrosion, wear — because the cause determines whether the neighbors are next.

  3. Replace and repair

    Failed motors are replaced with correct-spec units; ESC faults are repaired at board level where the platform allows, or the board replaced where it doesn't.

  4. Calibrate the set

    ESC calibration and balanced spin-up testing across all motors, then a hover test under load before return.

Motors & ESCs — common questions

One motor sounds different from the others. Should I keep flying?

No. A motor that sounds different is telling you its bearings or windings are going, and a quad has no spare motor to lose in flight. Ground it and get it diagnosed — the diagnosis is free.

Do you replace just the bad motor, or all of them?

If one motor failed from impact, replacing that one is usually right. If it failed from corrosion or wear, its siblings have the same hours and the same salt air in them — we'll show you the condition of each and let you decide.

Can you fix an ESC, or is it always a board swap?

Many ESC faults — burnt MOSFETs, damaged connectors, cracked solder joints — are repairable at board level, which is usually cheaper than a replacement board. Where the platform integrates ESCs into the main board, we'll quote the realistic options.

Why does my drone drift or pull to one side?

Uneven thrust. The usual causes are a weakening motor, a damaged prop, a bent motor mount or an ESC delivering uneven output. It's a fast thing to isolate on the bench.
